Events of the Week

So glad to have this opportunity to share out a bunch of things - specifically the Climate Summit this weekend that I FORGOT to mention on air today.

Yall, I didn’t even open my notebook! 🤦‍♀️

tbh I am kinda getting used to it- forgetting things and realizing it after the show wraps- but I do want to be more efficient at sharing the info. We will get there! And show notes could be a good solution. (Thanks for sticking with me ❤️‍🔥)

This Week’s Events:

This Thursday June 19th, 2025 🌳🪴 More info here : saveUNCAwoods.org

Terracycle Event at WestVillageMarket.com this Thursday (11a-3p) and Saturday (1-3p) at 771 Haywood Road in West Asheville. Parking available in the adjacent parking lot while shopping at market! Full list of what they accept (including clean socks - even mismatched and holey ones are okay!) on their website.

Info, Schedule, and Registration for the Warren Wilson Collaboration for Climate Action Summit HERE

+ it is freeeeeee, but you need to register so they can have a seat for your booty and food to feed your face :)

Thanks to John I, a listener of Green Assistant Radio and 103.3 Asheville FM, for sharing details about styrofoam recycling for Hendersonville residents.

It got me wondering about polystyrene recycling in other areas, and my coworker Sara told me about feedmefoam.com and it so happens that they are set up around the region to collect VERY specific kinds of styrofoam from the public.

Any time you are utilizing specialized recycling (or any recycling system) please make sure you’re bringing the GOOD goods - clean,

dry, empty, and only accepted items.

There’s a bunch more that I want to put in here:

  • like the fact that I will be at the West Asheville Tailgate Market next Tuesday afternoon with a collection point of writing utensils and clean/dry grocery bags AND a fun art activity, repping for my fave community radio station AshevilleFM.org),

  • the Asheville Tool Library has some great events next weekend (Tool Sale AND grand opening of the Art Balcony), and

  • the VOICES III event in July, but we will have to wait until next week’s show to cover those.

Time to go record the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project’s Tailgate Market Report for the AshevilleFM News Hour (airs in a few hours on Wed at 11am and Sat at 8am and in the archives at AshevilleFM.org)

Have an event or recycling info/question to share?

Email it to me at thegreenassistant@gmail.com
